About
Newport Academy offers a specialized program for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and associated anxiety disorders, such as agoraphobia, panic disorders, social anxiety, and trichotillomania. Young adults aged 18 to 35 stay in gender-segregated residences and receive educational assistance through a Learning Lab and dedicated tutors during their treatment. Family involvement is a key component of the recovery process at Newport Institute, with family therapy sessions and ongoing communication aimed at fostering collective healing.
The OCD treatment program at Newport Institute focuses on exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, where clients confront anxiety-inducing situations and learn to modify their reactions. Participants engage in ERP therapy for 4.5 hours per day, five days a week, within both group and individual settings while also completing independent homework assignments. Additional therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Experiential therapies such as horticultural therapy, creative arts, and adventure therapy are also utilized to enhance emotional regulation and equip clients with coping strategies.
The multidisciplinary team at Newport Institute features psychiatrists, family therapists, nurse practitioners, counselors, art and music therapists, dieticians, and adventure therapy specialists. An initial psychiatric assessment shapes the treatment plan and determines any necessary medication to help reduce symptoms. Both young adults and their families receive psychoeducational support on OCD, facilitating healing for the entire family unit.
Academic support is offered on-site at Newport Institute, with a well-equipped learning center and qualified tutors available to assist young adults in advancing their academic goals, applying for college, and enhancing their vocational abilities. Rooted in compassion and care, Newport Institute is committed to ongoing research to measure the effectiveness of its treatment methods and continuously conducts outcome studies to refine its approach.
