About
Situated in Atlanta, Georgia, Skyland Trail J. Rex Fuqua Campus caters to young individuals aged 14 to 17 and is part of a well-respected nonprofit organization focused on mental health care. The center prioritizes personalized treatment, developing evidence-based, individualized plans that incorporate a holistic approach to mental wellness. Within a classroom-like environment, clients receive education about their mental health challenges and learn coping strategies aimed at preventing relapse and managing stress effectively. Positioned 13 miles northeast of Atlanta's downtown, this campus provides residential care for adolescents from the surrounding area. Skyland Trail collaborates with most leading private insurance providers and offers financial assistance to eligible families to help manage treatment costs.
At the Skyland Trail J. Rex Fuqua Campus, residential clients enjoy their own private rooms and bathrooms, with the facility boasting comfortable indoor dining and relaxation areas, well-lit common spaces, a designated area for academic studies, gardens, and outdoor recreational facilities. Support from licensed nurses and residential staff is available around the clock. Both residential and day treatment participants engage in academic work through their current school or via ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, receiving approximately 2.5 hours of academic assistance each day.
Weekly schedules include individual consultations with psychiatrists and therapists, group therapy sessions, skills development, peer support, physical fitness activities, yoga, and expressive therapies such as art and music. Families are required to join therapy sessions weekly via video, with an additional family program that emphasizes psychoeducation and support for caregivers. The therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) focusing on various issues such as anxiety, self-esteem, anger management, and self-harm. Participants can take part in supplementary groups based on Ecological Systems Theory and substance-related challenges. The comprehensive treatment also may involve psychological assessments and trauma-focused prolonged exposure (PE) therapy. The average stay lasts between 8 to 12 weeks, after which clients can transition to day treatment.
Day treatment generally extends for 4 to 6 weeks, with clients arriving from 8:15 AM to 8:45 AM, Monday through Friday, and departing at 3 PM. Transportation for clients to the treatment facility is not permitted. This program usually continues the care initiated during residential treatment, although individuals may directly enter this program when suitable. For those admitted directly to day treatment, the duration typically extends an additional 4 weeks.
