About
A Mission for Michael (AMFM) offers a specialized, gender-focused residential treatment program for mental health, accommodating up to eight clients simultaneously. Located in Virginia, their facility provides a nurturing and supportive setting with continuous care available around the clock. AMFM adopts a holistic view of recovery, understanding that healing encompasses more than just standard therapies and medications. Their offerings include a wide range of elements thoughtfully designed to support recovery, including empirically supported treatments, strong therapeutic alliances, and chef-prepared meals focused on nutrition, all delivered with intentional warmth and care.
AMFM conducts thorough evaluations to gain insights into each client's symptoms, personal history, and individual strengths and challenges. This knowledge allows them to develop tailored treatment strategies that align with each client's unique needs. They provide care for both primary and co-occurring disorders.
With a commitment to delivering 60 hours of structured clinical programming each week, AMFM includes comprehensive medication oversight, several individual therapy sessions, family therapy, and case management support. Their evidence-informed methods seek to address the underlying issues related to mental health, alongside medicinal options as appropriate. Qualified therapists employ techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), in addition to offering transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Each client benefits from a weekly consultation with a psychiatric provider and two individual therapy sessions with a counselor. Additionally, mindfulness principles are integrated throughout the program to bolster the effectiveness of the evidence-based therapies, alongside training in life skills and psychoeducation.
Situated outside of Washington D.C., AMFM provides a tranquil, homelike atmosphere. The center features both private and semi-private accommodations, inviting communal spaces for living, specialized therapy rooms, and a scenic backyard complete with a serene porch. Adopting a comprehensive recovery philosophy, AMFM offers an array of therapeutic techniques including somatic experiencing, equine therapy, creative writing, pet therapy, psychodrama, art therapy, yoga, and expressive arts therapy. After completing residential care, clients have access to extensive aftercare options, which encompass group therapy, family support sessions, professional reintegration assistance, and engaging events for alumni, ensuring a seamless transition into ongoing support.
