About
Located just south of Washington, D.C., Dominion Hospital in Falls Church provides specialized treatment for children aged 5 and older, as well as adolescents and adults struggling with various mental health challenges, including eating disorders and co-occurring substance use issues. For teens, additional topics of focus include family conflict, emotional regulation, gender dysphoria, school-related anxiety, self-esteem, and body image concerns.
The center employs diverse therapeutic modalities tailored to clients' needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), pet therapy, expressive arts therapy, music therapy, nutrition counseling, psychoeducation, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), medication management, and exposure therapy. Pet therapy sessions are available on weekends, and staff members indicate that expressive arts and music therapies are particularly well-received.
Dominion Hospital offers residential, day, and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs that emphasize individualized care based on the understanding that change is possible, that social and family support are crucial for recovery, that evidence-based practices are vital, and that trauma-informed care is essential. The program respects clients' preferred pronouns.
The residential program incorporates daily goal-setting, numerous group therapy sessions, and a tailored blend of additional therapeutic options. Clients have the opportunity to make limited phone calls and receive visitors during scheduled times.
Adult-focused tracks at Dominion Hospital consist of standard day treatment, standard IOP, women-specific day treatment, complex trauma day treatment, women-specific IOP, eating disorder day treatment, and eating disorder IOP. Adult day and IOP treatments feature dual diagnosis support for those experiencing substance use challenges and trauma-specific interventions via their TraumaSci framework. The women-specific day program gives attention to those who are pregnant or have recently given birth.
For adolescents, options include standard day treatment, standard IOP, day treatment tailored for school refusal, eating disorder day treatment, and eating disorder IOP. Children aged 5 and above can participate in a dedicated day treatment program, while those aged 9 and up can access both an eating disorder day treatment and an eating disorder IOP.
Meetings may occur at the main Dominion Hospital location, the Chantilly campus, or the Reston Hospital Center, depending on the program. Additionally, Dominion Hospital can refer clients to other facilities for less intensive outpatient services.
To facilitate ongoing engagement, Dominion Hospital utilizes MyHealthONE, allowing clients to access their treatment notes during and after their programs. MyHealthONE is available through the hospital’s website or its mobile app.
