Dunham House

Located in the picturesque Eastern Townships of Quebec, Dunham House is dedicated to assisting individuals aged 18 to 65 who are struggling with addiction and mental health issues. The center is particularly focused on those facing dual challenges, including alcohol and cocaine dependencies. Dunham House is proud to provide services in English, catering to the bilingual community in Quebec. They offer various treatment options, including a 30-day intensive program, a 6-month core program, and outpatient services in Montreal. The 30-day and 60-day programs are also available to clients from outside the area. Additionally, they have tailored programs for young adults that address their unique life transitions, supporting their educational or professional pursuits. The center incorporates a diverse range of therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relapse prevention strategies, and a variety of expressive therapies including art, music, equine therapy, gardening, and recreational activities. These interventions are designed to help clients refine their emotional regulation, gain insights into their behaviors, and facilitate recovery using established, evidence-based practices. Residents are accommodated in semi-private rooms situated on an expansive 85-acre campus that promotes contemplation, self-discovery, and healing. The serene environment features walking trails, a pond, a 7,000-square-foot vegetable garden, a greenhouse, a chicken coop, as well as opportunities for kayaking and hiking. Meals are prepared using fresh produce from the garden and can be customized to meet dietary preferences, such as vegan or vegetarian options. Dunham House extends its support to families affected by a loved one’s addiction through a comprehensive 6-week program. Up to 10 participants may join each session, where they explore the stages of addiction and recovery, the effects on family dynamics, strategies for effective communication and boundary-setting, self-care practices, and methods for rebuilding trust. This program aims to help family members understand their loved one’s struggles while promoting healthy interactions for both the individual in recovery and the family members involved.
