Heartland Girls Ranch

Heartland Girls’ Ranch is dedicated to supporting young women aged 12 to 21 who are dealing with trauma-related issues, emotional difficulties, or have faced sexual exploitation. The center provides a secure living environment along with mental health services, educational opportunities, and a distinctive equine therapy initiative. Featuring two specialized programs, the main offering and Hearts for Freedom, the Ranch tailors its support to promote healing, personal growth, and the development of a positive future for each girl. Grounded in trauma-informed and strength-based methodologies, Heartland Girls’ Ranch utilizes proven therapeutic approaches to tackle complex trauma and facilitate enduring emotional recovery and personal development. Participants engage in both individual and group therapy sessions, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), substance abuse support, and daily therapeutic exercises. The equine therapy component fosters confidence, trust, and emotional insight, while direct interactions with horses instill a sense of responsibility and self-esteem in a nurturing, non-judgmental environment. Residents live on an operational ranch that features a combination of private and shared accommodations, communal dining experiences, and well-structured daily routines. With access to both indoor and outdoor riding facilities, girls can participate in equine therapy throughout the year. Transportation to and from the Ranch is arranged in conjunction with referral agencies, ensuring each girl has a successful transition plan upon arrival. This supportive atmosphere helps young women feel secure, encouraged, and empowered to create a better future.
