About
Hope is Alive (HIA) Ministries adopts a faith-based strategy for addressing substance use disorders. The initiative was inspired by founder Lance Lang’s personal journey of overcoming addiction, combined with the supportive role played by his wife, Ally, during his recovery. HIA views addiction as a complex condition, emphasizing the importance of prayer, community support, and the potential for recovery that includes the entire family. They advocate replacing detrimental habits with positive practices, recognizing that experiencing emotions is vital to the healing process, affirming the belief that hope is attainable.
In Oklahoma, HIA provides gender-specific residences in Oklahoma City and Tulsa for women and men, respectively, while their locations in Claremore and Weatherford exclusively accommodate men. Their sober living program aims to address the underlying issues that contributed to substance use, promoting significant transformations in individuals' lives. The shared living arrangements come equipped with comfortable amenities, including new bedding, dressers, lamps, and kitchen areas. They suggest residents bring essential items such as a Bible, food and non-alcoholic beverages, laundry supplies, and clothing sufficient for a month.
Beyond providing shelter, HIA offers a robust daily schedule. Residents are encouraged to engage in local 12-Step programs, secure employment, and join in optional outings aimed at personal growth. Community involvement is facilitated through monthly mentoring sessions, regular church attendance, and weekly meetings that gather at 6:30 p.m. They tailor their programs to fulfill the distinct needs of the residents and assist with any legal matters that may arise. Furthermore, participants can volunteer in community service activities once a month. The entire program spans between 12 to 18 months, with a majority completing the full duration of 18 months. The cost starts at $750 for the initial month and $650 for subsequent months, with random drug screenings to maintain accountability.
While headquartered in Oklahoma City, Hope is Alive extends its influence nationally through its sober living and family therapy initiatives, as well as retreats and collaborations with churches, corporations, and schools. They promote their mission through various media, including videos featuring endorsements from figures like Craig Groeschel and partnerships with notable personalities for their retreat experiences. Regular updates about their diverse programs are available via their RADICAL magazine and blog.
HIA also supports families through its Finding Hope program, which is dedicated to fostering love, encouragement, and prayer among participants. They host bi-monthly meetings lasting between 60 to 90 minutes. Additionally, their Hope After Loss counseling program provides assistance to individuals grieving the loss of loved ones due to addiction.
