IAFF Center of Excellence

IAFF Center of Excellence serves as a specialized rehabilitation center focusing on behavioral health and recovery for firefighters facing challenges like PTSD, trauma, substance use, and addiction. The center employs an evidence-based, multidisciplinary method, engaging a team of healthcare professionals—including doctors, nurses, and therapists—to address the individual's complete health needs rather than solely their addiction or associated disorders. Core conditions treated include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as depression and anxiety. IAFF Center of Excellence offers a range of services, including medically supervised detoxification, residential inpatient care, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient programs (IOP), teletherapy, and comprehensive aftercare planning. Therapeutic options encompass individual and group counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), skills training, nutritional education, 12-step facilitation, exposure therapy, medication management, and experiential therapies. The center also develops tailored aftercare plans that feature relapse prevention techniques, 12-step groups, alumni mentorship, work reintegration support, diagnostic check-in sessions, and referrals to local mental and physical healthcare services. Accreditation is provided by the Joint Commission. Situated on a 15-acre campus across seven buildings, IAFF Center of Excellence features four station houses where clients reside, each designed in a firehouse theme with cozy furnishings. Residents are grouped according to their specific treatment requirements to foster community and support. Amenities available to clients include walking paths, yoga sessions, animal-assisted therapy, outdoor volleyball and basketball courts, an outdoor swimming pool, and a fully equipped gym. Additionally, clients receive nutrition guidance and access to balanced meals and snacks.
