About
Located in the heart of northeast Mississippi, specifically in Tupelo, the hometown of Elvis Presley, Oceans Behavioral Hospital Tupelo functions as an independent division within the Northern Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC). It offers both inpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs for both adolescents and adults, enhancing the array of services available through NMMC. The hospital addresses various mental health issues, including anger management, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, grief, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, self-harm behaviors, stress, trauma, as well as substance abuse and personality disorders. Treatment approaches encompass individualized counseling, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), group therapy, medication oversight, relapse prevention strategies, relaxation techniques, and support through the 12-Step program. The psychiatric team assesses both patient progress and medication management on a daily basis.
For seniors aged 55 and older, Oceans Behavioral Hospital Tupelo provides group therapy sessions from Monday to Thursday, running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., focusing on mental health issues related to aging, such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
For younger clients aged 12 to 17, the facility conducts sessions Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., allowing them to participate in intensive outpatient treatment while still keeping up with their educational commitments. These group sessions specifically address typical adolescent challenges, including self-harm concerns.
Oceans Behavioral Hospital operates multiple facilities across Texas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma, with many focusing on mental health issues related to aging or military experiences, and a growing number catering to the mental health needs of adolescents. Some locations collaborate with other healthcare organizations, including Ochsner Health and Norman Regional Health System.
