Thunderbird/Wren House

The Thunderbird-Wren House, located in Duluth’s northern residential district, delivers residential support for Anishinaabe individuals facing challenges with substance use. It provides a medium-intensity care level aimed at those who have finished a high-intensity program, along with transitional halfway housing. The center emphasizes a culturally relevant approach that respects Anishinaabe customs, assisting participants in reclaiming their identity and disrupting addictive patterns. Individuals engage in daily activities based on the 12-Step recovery framework, which includes meetings and mentorship opportunities. The center is inclusive and offers supportive spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals through tailored care plans and groups. Additionally, the weekly agenda incorporates cultural teachings, pipe ceremonies, and meditation practices, which help clients remain centered and connected throughout their recovery journey. The services are structured to accommodate each person’s unique needs as they work towards rebuilding their lives within a supportive community. The program also provides educational workshops, life skills training, and plans for relapse prevention. Participants have opportunities to join community events and family support sessions. Following the completion of their treatment, clients may access ongoing support through Mash-Ka-Wisen, which assists them in sustaining their sobriety and achieving their long-term aspirations. These services ensure that individuals receive valuable guidance and continued support as they reintegrate into everyday life.
