About
Adolescent Wellness Academy (AWA) provides extensive outpatient services tailored for youth aged 13-17, focusing on mental health and co-occurring challenges, including substance use disorder (SUD). Their integrative programs combine personalized one-on-one and group therapy with creative activities and academic support, all within a family-oriented framework. The dedicated multidisciplinary team collaborates with both adolescents and their families, helping young individuals cultivate resilience, enhance self-awareness, and improve relationships with peers and family in a nurturing atmosphere conducive to healing.
AWA's therapeutic day program, known as a partial hospitalization program (PHP), represents their highest standard of care. This daily program mimics residential treatment while allowing participants to stay at home, offering 8 hours of therapy each day, 5 days a week. It includes 1 hour of individual therapy and 4 hours of evidence-based group sessions per week, along with 2-3 hours of on-site educational support from an education coordinator to help adolescents maintain their academic progress. Clients also receive weekly psychiatric evaluations to monitor development and refine treatment strategies as needed. Nutritional guidance and meals, including lunch, snacks, and beverages, are provided on-site daily.
Typically, participants engage in PHP for a period of 4 to 12 weeks before moving on to an intensive outpatient program (IOP). The IOP serves teenagers who show mild signs of depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral challenges, or SUD. This afternoon program lasts 3 hours each day for 3 to 5 days a week and features 2 group sessions daily. Experiential activities such as music, yoga, and mindfulness practices are included, alongside designated study areas for homework assistance. Families generally see their teens participating in IOP for about 10 to 16 weeks.
At AWA, family engagement is a core aspect of treatment, recognizing the critical role that parents and guardians play in the recovery journey. The center facilitates a weekly support group for parents, monthly multi-family meetings, and clinical services for crisis intervention. Moreover, families can take part in regular family therapy sessions to strengthen their connections and support their adolescent’s recovery.
Treatment Focus
The center specializes in addressing mental health challenges alongside concurrent substance use disorders. Patients benefit from a tailored, team-based approach to treatment that focuses on comprehensive healing for both aspects of their wellbeing.
