About
Odyssey House of Utah is a nonprofit organization focused on substance abuse recovery, providing tailored care for a diverse range of people and families dealing with addiction and related mental health issues since 1971. Alongside multiple residential programs available locally, Odyssey House also offers outpatient services as part of a comprehensive care model at two sites in the Salt Lake City vicinity.
The center's standard and intensive outpatient offerings cater to adults whose lives are disrupted by substance use but who can stay safe in their home environments while pursuing recovery. Participants undergo a detailed initial evaluation to create personalized treatment plans that address their specific situations. The intensive outpatient program (IOP) requires attendance for 9 to 16 hours weekly, based on each client's unique needs and challenges. Treatment teams include certified addiction specialists, counselors, mental health professionals, and psychiatric providers who support clients facing co-occurring mental health disorders. Generally, clients spend around 3-4 months in treatment at Odyssey House, and upon finishing their program, they receive continued support to help them maintain long-term sobriety and achieve stable, independent lifestyles.
The general outpatient program (GOP) offers less intensive care for those who are starting to recognize their struggles with substance use and have found it difficult to quit or reduce their consumption alone. The GOP structure includes sessions lasting 2-5 hours per week.
Emphasizing accountability, community support, and family participation, their programs equip clients with vital communication, coping, and life skills. The individualized approach incorporates a mix of treatment services, including evidence-based therapies in various formats such as one-on-one, group, and family sessions, along with psychoeducational workshops and psychosocial support. Odyssey House also hosts family support groups, which are open to anyone, whether or not their loved one is currently in one of Odyssey House's treatment programs.
Additionally, Odyssey House serves individuals mandated to seek treatment for legal reasons, offering budget-friendly drug and alcohol assessments that fulfill court requirements, as well as classes to address legal obligations resulting from DUI offenses. As the largest comprehensive addiction treatment program in Utah, Odyssey House of Utah is committed to empowering individuals on their journey to recovery while providing accessible, high-quality services. They are accredited by the Joint Commission and accept Medicaid along with numerous major insurance plans.
