Algamus Recovery Services has been at the forefront of addressing gambling addiction and its specific challenges for more than three decades. They provide assistance to individuals of diverse backgrounds experiencing various forms of gambling addiction, including but not limited to sports betting, poker, slot machines, online gaming, and table games. Recognized in A&E’s Intervention series, Algamus stands out as one of the few residential treatment facilities in the United States dedicated solely to gambling addiction, holding JCAHO accreditation. The center offers a residential program lasting from 4 to 8 weeks, specifically designed for those grappling with gambling addiction. A significant number of their staff members have personal recovery experiences, fostering an empathetic atmosphere with profound understanding of the financial, legal, and emotional hurdles associated with gambling issues. Their treatment methods incorporate evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group therapy sessions, and holistic strategies that focus on mindfulness, physical health, and creative expression. Qualified gambling counselors and psychiatric professionals work to uncover the fundamental issues behind addiction, including any co-occurring mental health disorders, while implementing the principles of the 12-Step program. Algamus integrates the Enneagram, a personality assessment tool, into their therapeutic process to promote a well-rounded recovery experience. This resource aids clients in gaining self-awareness by revealing the thinking patterns, emotional prompts, fundamental fears, and aspirations that contribute to their gambling behaviors. Consequently, the use of the Enneagram facilitates emotional recovery and minimizes dependence on detrimental coping strategies. Treatment plans are customized according to each client’s specific Enneagram type. Located in a tranquil lodge, Algamus offers a gambling- and substance-free zone for clients. With a capacity of only 10 beds, including 2 private rooms suited for specific needs like CPAP use, the accommodations are designed for comfort, featuring queen-size beds and no televisions in bedrooms to encourage relaxation and contemplation. Clients can unwind in one of the three shared living areas—two equipped with TVs and a third, more intimate den with a fireplace—or take advantage of outdoor facilities such as a swimming pool and fire pit. Additionally, they provide access to a gym and the option for clients to prepare their own meals, enhancing the home-like atmosphere. Their picturesque desert setting is purposefully located away from gambling establishments, creating a nurturing environment for individuals looking to break free from gambling addiction.

The Algamus Gambling Treatment Center works with a variety of commercial insurance companies, although coverage options can differ depending on the state or specific insurance plan. It's important to be aware that Medicare and Medicaid are not currently accepted. Additionally, the center may provide partial scholarships based on individual circumstances. Notable insurance providers that are part of Algamus's network include Cigna, Tricare West, and Tricare West VA.
