Embark at Independence provides short-term residential care in a serene and restorative setting for adolescent males and females facing challenges related to behavioral health and substance use. The center specializes in dual-diagnosis cases, integrating research-supported techniques with experiential therapies and outdoor recreation for a comprehensive treatment experience. Their inpatient services focus on managing mental health issues and co-occurring disorders through modalities such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), substance abuse counseling, education, and supportive recovery groups. Embark at Independence fosters a structured and nurturing atmosphere where daily routines incorporate activities that enhance mental well-being and daily living skills, including individual and group therapy, exercise, nature engagement, and nutritious meals. Their family therapy component is aimed at boosting confidence, enhancing social-emotional skills, and strengthening familial connections. Common issues addressed include school avoidance, addiction, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, borderline personality disorder (BPD), family dynamics, and self-harm or suicidal thoughts. The residential program at Embark promotes engagement with nature and offers a range of therapeutic experiences. Social activities include group projects, talent showcases, trivia nights, game evenings, and movie nights. Set on expansive grounds alongside the Missouri River, patients can engage in various physical and experiential therapies like kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, camping, fishing, archery, frisbee golf, and swimming. Additionally, Embark at Independence provides intellectual activities such as cultural events, culinary courses, automotive training, and trade skill workshops. With an emphasis on spiritual and emotional health, they offer music lessons, arts and crafts, spiritual retreats, and mindfulness practices. Off-campus outings to nearby Kansas City for patients and their families, referred to as parent weekends, also take place. Activities during these weekends may include a 5K color run, talent shows, and Kansas City Royals games, allowing participants to practice and apply skills learned in a real-world context while fostering family bonds.
