About
Located in Klawock, Alaska, Passages Alaska offers wilderness therapy for teenagers and adults facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health issues. The program incorporates activities like fishing and camping alongside evidence-based practices including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Clients also engage in community service through park clean-ups, and each day concludes with group discussions reflecting on personal experiences and insights. For those healing from trauma, techniques like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), brain spotting, and somatic experiencing are utilized.
Passages Alaska provides a co-ed program designed for individuals seeking wilderness therapy, with a focus on helping adolescent boys and young men aged 14 to 24. The expeditions are facilitated by Sean Tomkinson, a licensed clinical social worker, and a team of field guides from diverse backgrounds, some of whom have military or counseling experience. Each expedition spans from 8 to 12 weeks, culminating in a graduation ceremony, and participants have the option to join additional expeditions after this period.
