About
Nestled close to the Clark Fork River and W Broadway Street in Missoula, Winds of Change Mental Health Center serves as an outpatient facility focused on providing case management, therapy, community support, medication oversight, and life skills education for adults and youth experiencing mental health and substance use challenges. The center also features short-term group home accommodations for adults, aimed at promoting stability for its clients. Winds of Change is affiliated with the nonprofit Wellness Institute of Montana and accepts Medicaid for a variety of its services.
Each individual receiving treatment is assigned a case manager, peer support specialist, and therapist, with access to psychiatric staff for medication supervision. The center offers personalized therapy sessions, available both face-to-face and via video conferencing, that assist clients in recognizing behaviors and thoughts needing change, setting objectives, and implementing these alterations. Treatment for substance use and gambling addictions includes assessments, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and additional methods. Life skills coaching covers areas such as financial management, with case managers providing support in locating housing, job opportunities, and educational resources. Winds of Change also conducts evening anger management classes recognized by courts, which guide participants in early detection of anger and fostering calm communication. Other recovery options include relationship workshops, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), driver education, and illness management strategies.
Further, Winds of Change caters to children aged 5-18 facing mental health and substance use issues. Therapists utilize approaches such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and solution-focused therapy, working in tandem with caseworkers who support clients in goal development and access to necessary resources.
