Eating Disorders Treatment Center

About

Eating Disorders Treatment Center (EDTC) is a unique establishment in New Mexico focused solely on the recovery and treatment of eating disorders. With a team-driven methodology, EDTC provides a range of services including dietary guidance, individual therapy, psychiatric support, and group sessions to assist each client in achieving their personal recovery objectives. The center addresses prevalent disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder, along with additional issues like night eating syndrome, laxative misuse, body image issues, and body dysmorphic disorder. Furthermore, EDTC extends its care to other mental health challenges, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma-related conditions, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and dissociative identity disorder. EDTC features specialized Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) tailored for teenagers, adults, and those struggling with binge eating. All participants undergo a nutritional assessment and receive personalized counseling from the center's dietitian staff. These dietitians collaborate with clients to create meal plans and prepare nutritious meals for group consumption each evening. After meals, therapists facilitate discussions to process the dining experience. Various evidence-based and creative therapeutic techniques are integrated throughout the program. The adolescent and adult IOPs take place from 4:15 PM to 7:15 PM, four days a week. One weekly session focuses on family-centered treatment, allowing patients and family members to address relevant issues together. In the adult program, patients are encouraged to involve significant others or family members integral to their recovery. The binge eating disorder IOP is crafted to support individuals of all ages dealing with binge eating symptoms. This program aims to help participants uncover the underlying causes of their challenges, foster a harmonious relationship with food, and cultivate healthy coping mechanisms. Monthly meetings with family or support groups facilitate education and relationship enhancement. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is available Monday through Friday from 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM, with extended offerings for family programs on Tuesday evenings. During treatment, patients receive two meals and one snack daily under the supervision of registered dietitians and dietary aides. The program includes group instruction, individual therapy, and comprehensive medical and psychiatric evaluations. Participants engage with various expressive and experiential therapies, with weekly consultations with a registered dietitian to assess individualized meal plans. EDTC extends its nutritional counseling to a broader audience, not limited strictly to patients with diagnosed eating disorders. The experienced dietitians focus on improving nutritional health while providing support for eating disorders, monitoring weight as necessary, and promoting positive attitudes and behaviors towards food. They deliver customized nutrition education, examine clients’ relationships with food and body image, and help establish achievable goals towards intuitive eating and healthier habits. The staff is equipped to address an array of nutrition-related concerns such as diabetes, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, weight control, and more.
