University of New Mexico Hospital Psychiatric Center

About

Located on the campus of the University of New Mexico (UNM) in Albuquerque, UNM Health specializes in the treatment of adults dealing with mental health issues and substance use disorders. This 96-bed facility, positioned within the Health Sciences Center, is the first in the state to incorporate neuromodulation techniques for patients suffering from treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Among the various neuromodulation treatments offered, electric convulsive therapy (ECT) stands out as a widely utilized option. Additionally, UNM Health provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to support individuals in recovering from substance abuse. The center offers specialized programs for pregnant women facing substance use challenges, those linked to the legal system, Native American communities, adults aged 55 and older, and couples. UNM Health aims to tailor its services to meet the needs of the diverse population in Albuquerque, including providing safe medications for substance use treatment that are suitable for both mothers and their unborn children. To accommodate its significant Spanish-speaking clientele, UNM Health delivers psychiatric services in Spanish. The duration of psychiatric care typically ranges from 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the specific program and individual circumstances. Their offerings include both inpatient and outpatient care, featuring individual, group, and family therapy alongside neuromodulation and medication interventions. Outpatient detox services are also available. UNM Health enhances client engagement through a dedicated portal powered by mCharts, allowing clients to conveniently access their treatment records during and after their recovery journey via the mCharts website or app.
